Full Cycle Records continues: the evolution documented by the diggers

Context

We had opened a Full Cycle Records file about « Social Security » and the return of the Bristol label. A new article is added to the documentation: « The Evolution of Full Cycle Records: Roni Size, Bristol Soundsystem Culture and the Return ». We are back because this article changes the angle without changing the facts - and because the way the scene tells its own heritage matters.

What the article brings

The angle is no longer « Full Cycle is back » (our first publication) but « how Full Cycle fits into Bristol's sound system culture ». The shift is editorial and political: it places the label in its ecosystem (V Recordings, Reprazent, the soul II soul-adjacent scene, the Caribbean sound system collectives that have structured Bristol since the 80s) rather than in its sole commercial trajectory.

This is the second publication in a short time that documents Bristol's sound system heritage from a recognized editorial angle. It is part of the « bristol-jungle-heritage » thread that already follows the jungle 30 years exhibition.

Lineage recalled

The article recalls lineages that DnB sometimes forgets: Studio One → King Tubby → Caribbean sound systems of Bristol → Wild Bunch → Massive Attack → Roni Size → Full Cycle. It's a useful reminder, as it refuses the reading that makes breakbeat an invention in a vacuum.

What it says about the moment

Two Bristol documentary publications in a short time, the « 30 years of jungle » exhibition at the same time, the release of the book « Dub Revolution » (see our culture file): it's a coherent editorial cluster, not a coincidence. Bristol is working on its own memory, and the global anglophone scene is responding.
